Hi everybody, I would like to buy a DSLR, and I was interested in Pentax K10. Unfortunately, here in Italy, it's almost impossible to find it. I can only find the K20 or K200.
I found, in a good price, the Samsung GX10: is this really the same as Pentax? What lenses does it mount? Is it worth to buy it or is better to buy another one? (K200, or Canon eos 450, or Nikon D60?)
Another question. I read that the kit lens (18-55) by Pentax was quite good, is the samsung (?) kit lense good too? (just to start, I mean)

I have a GX-10 and am really pleased with it. For me, I bought it instead of the Pentax because: it was cheaper, it came with a two year guarantee and, according to the reviews, the only physical difference is that the Samsung menus are easier to understand. And, having read side-by-side reviews of the Samsung and Pentax lenses, it's clear that they are identical in construction and performance. And the Samsung lens mount is the same as the Pentax, so any lens that can be used on a K10D can be used on a GX-10.
Unless I could easily stretch to a K20D, I'd still go for the GX-10. I bought the twin lens kit at a very good price and am pleased that, in addition to the standard lens, I also have the 50-200mm telephoto. This might be worth you looking into.

I'd be interested in the dual kit too, but here is very difficult to find.
I also find a GX10 at a good price, and in the next weeks I'm going to buy it. I would like the 50-200, and I think I'll go for the Pentax (I also find a Sigma 55-200, but I read that Pentax is a little better, and the sigma rotate the ending part while focusing, so it could be a problem using it with a polarizer).

I think the only (possibly) significant difference between the K10D and GX10 is that the Pentax version has both their own .pef and more general .dng RAW file formats, the Samsung only one (I think .dng, but I'm not certain).

I have the K10D and use *.dng raw, so that is not a problem either. The K200 is similar to the K10D, it has the same sensor, but only has one control wheel on the body, so moving to Aperture or Shutter priority mode is not so easy. The GX-10 is a good buy.
I am not going to buy the K20D, for me the live view is too Micky Mouse. I will wait for the next version, which may be a full frame of course??? or at least a better version of the K20D with upgraded live view.
But who knows? Certainly not I.

I have the K10D and I've used my GFs sister's GX-10, although I am used to using the Pentax system I preferred the K10Ds menus than the GX-10... Having said that, what comes out of the camera matters more and they are both equal in that respect....
The Samsung SA lenses and the Pentax DA lenses are good, the 50-200 I believe is better than the Sigma, depending if you get a good lens or not.
Check that you can still get a rebate on the GX-10, I think you can in the UK but I am not sure in Italy, it's worth checking, just to save some lire (oops Euros).

Another question: the Samsung gx-10 can mount Pentax lenses, but can the "Schneider-Kreuznach" be mounted on Pentax camera?
Do they have the same mounting system?

With the increase in 'Digital Image Competitions' in photographic clubs, where images are presented in 1024x768 pixel format, there seems to be little need now for more than 10-12 Mp sensors. I can print to A3 at 240 dpi and get excellent results and digital images are also superb. The GX-10 or K10D will fulfill that requirement well.
Better to spend your money on good glass, or a solid tripod/monopod.

I have the Samsung GX10 and bought with the double lens kit like John_g. I sold a Canon 20D to get this kit. I'm very pleased with it as it lets me use my older Pentax K lenses and the kit 18-55 is really quite good. The 50-200 is better than many similar offerings from other makes. Geoffrey Crawley in AP a few months ago said that these lenses were Schneider designs and the better for that. If you have the opportunity to get the GX10 then do it.

Whether the DA or Schneider lenses are designed by Pentax or Schneider is a matter of conjecture, but the 18-55 was around before the GX-1S/L cameras appeared. An interesting point is that the second generation 18-55s for the GX-20 and K20D have different optical formulas 
As for the cameras, they are more or less the same, some folk prefer the Samsung's user interface, others (like me) prefer the Pentax...Whatever, they are fabulous cameras...
