To sell or keep?
      #681184 - 21/07/2008 12:07

Hi. I have a couple of digital Canons -- EOS20D and 40D. I also have several film cameras: EOS1n, Canon T90, Vivitar 35mm SLR, several lenses, and Bronica medium format beast with spare lens. Nowadays I only use the digital gear, so I'm thinking: sell the old stuff. Extra money would be useful, but would I get that much? Is it worth the hassle, maybe via eBay? What do other folk do? (Trouble is, I'm a bit emotionally fixed on some of them.)
Many thanks.

You'd probably get a bit for the 1n as it's a decent if elderly pro body. The T90 still has a reasonable value provided it's in full working order. I doubt the Vivitar will realise much money. The Bronica probably won't raise anything like what it used to as they are no longer made and spares availability isn't what it was.

You don't say what the lenses are but IMO I'd keep any EF mount that are half decent. You may do better to sell any lenses that fit the other cameras as a sort of kit. I suspect that with old film stuff the chance to buy a full working kit probably has a little more appeal to many buyers than having to trawl around e-bay or the shops buying stuff piecemeal...

I would use commission sale, unless you want the proceeds in a hurry. I would keep any genuine EF mount lenses and possibly the EOS1n, simply because if you happen to want to use a film camera it is compatible with the lenses used on the digital bodies, with the obvious exceptions.

I paid about £220 for my near mint 1n about a year ago, with a 6 month warranty.

Id expect to pay a little less now, especially with no warranty

Where can you sell a T90 for "reasonable money"? I still have my T90 and T70 plus some lenses due to the derisory trade-in values offered when I was looking at going digital just over a year ago.
