Hello
I am looking at purchasing one of the above lenses as a single lens solution to going on holiday. I was going to buy a new point and shoot but decided on this route instead.
Has anyone used either lens and have an opinion on its general abilities and performance.
Any opinions, advice or thoughts appreciated.
The camera is a 20D
Thanks

Although I've not used either, I can't see how a 55-250 would be any good as a single lens for going on holiday as 55mm is fairly long.

Neither lens will give you any wide angle coverage on a 20D. But either could be used in a two lens solution alongside a 15-55 kit lens. Use them wisely by keeping an eye on the shutter speed/focal length and stopping them down to about f8 and they should turn in a reasonable performance.

I had a 28-300 which I bought with my 10D body as an early 'kit lens' solution. I have to say that I wasn't overly impressed. You may find the lens perfectly acceptable but I found the colour fringing was more than I was prepared to accept.
You can check out a few thousand images taken with the lens at Pbase.

Hi
Thanks for the replies and your thoughts on this. I think on reflection, despite only wanting to take one lens, i will go with the two lens option as suggested.
Norman thanks for the link. Not sure about some of the images ( monitor and internet aside ) some appear soft to me. Will need to see if i can spaeak to a friendly dealer about trying a few options.
Thanks

The 28-200 has a reputation as a fairly average performer. The 55-250 appears to be very much better. OTOH, the 28-200 has full-frame coverage, the 55-250 is EF-S, if that colours your judgement.
