Elements 6
      #679885 - 17/07/2008 15:47

I've used Elements 4 but have had some problems with it. I know most of the problems will be down but recently I've found that the whole system locks up and I have to resort to the alt/con/del to get out of it. I've run through a check on the software and the report suggests that I reload the software. After this it seems to work for a while. I'm thinking about version 6 but do I have to un-install version 4 first? Of course, making sure I've got copies of my files. I'm sorry if this is something dealt with before but would be grateful for help.

Thanks

How much RAM does your machine have? It might just be that everything has locked up due to lack of memory.

You can have two versions installed alongside each other, but only one open at a time. I have 3 and 6, and that's what it told me when I installed 6.

I use Elements 4 and have never had a problem with it, but it can be slow and does like lots of memory.

I used to have Elemnet 2 and 4 open but not used at the same time because I don't like the Elements viewer/database. I've now moved from E5 to E6 and actually find E6 faster! Got 3 megafingles of RAM though. The Elements databse still loses and missplaces files though as it has done, for me, since E3. And I do move files using Elements and not Windows Explorer. I do like the editing side of Elements but I just wish they'd let me decide what to do with my files as in 2, rant, rant, rant.

Thanks for your help. I've got 1gb of ram and also have a more powerful graphics card built in as I blew the first one within 3 days! I've got about 87% free space on the hard drive. I think I will up grade to 6 but will probably copy my files to an external hard drive first then get rid of 4.However, this might be entrusted to the person that built my pc as he doesn't get phased by very much unlike me!
Thanks again
