I was stood at the front of the crowd line in our own little XH558 group, and as said they were taken using the Sigma 28-300, most pictures were taken at around the 300 mark, the helicopters were coming more or less straight at me.
I used continuous drive all the time and ended up taking 718 pictures.
The last picture is the Tornado GR4

Thanks.
The day started off very wet, but the sun came out for us in the end.
Just need some better quality glass for this sort of thing as the Sigma 28-300DG does not quite cut it.
Any 300 f2.8 G`s out there going cheap?

Just missed a Tamron 200-400/5.6 on fleabay, went for about £175, has good Dyxum reviews and they do come up from time to time, keep hunting.
Incidentally, I saw the Dakota flying out of Hurn yesterday. Naturally I was indoors and the camera was in another room.
Cheers MIKE

I am still undecided between the Sigma 170-500 or the 50-500, and the Tamron 200-500

Hi Gordon,
Looks like you had a good day at the airshow too! I see you managed to get to the front line, with wife and two kids in tow I didn't get that close...we were also displaying in the vintage car section - this year we had the newest 'old' car there , but at least it gets you in free and a decent parking place!
The photos I took were with a D300 and the Tamron 200 - 500 lens - most were hand held at 500mm...heavy, but got away with it on some shots with fast shutter and high ISO. I used manual focus as it just wasn't quick enough for aircraft.
The Tamron is a good lens, not the fastest, but for the price you can't go far wrong. I bought mine from a guy in Canada on Ebay, like new for half the price. I don't use it very often, but it works well for wildlife too.
Cheers, Nick

I had a great day, the weather was a bit damp to start with, but it brightened up for most of it.
I have thought about that lens for a while, but I think I may sway for one of the Sigma`s, unless I can get the Tammy for a reasonable price........
I was quite surprised by the ISO settings I got away with, 400 at the start but down to 200 when the sun came out.
I too would like something longer than my 400 for wildlife
Don t know if you came down to middle of the crowds,if you did you could not have missed us as we had our `unofficial` blue XH558 T shirts on,only had 110 made.
