With all of these new DSLR's coming out from Nikon, Sony and the rest even Canon might bring out a new one, one day  It could happen
But, I don't know if I'll bother changing mine. It does pretty much everything I want it to do, apart from keep it's sensor clean, although being a 1.6 x crop a bit more at the wide end would be nice and I suppose better high ISO performance would be welcome too. On the whole though I can't really see myself dashing down to the shops if Canon bring out a new model.
Am I just growing old gracefully with my kit I wonder. Anyone else thinking that they're happy enough to let the upgrades pass them by?

I have to let upgraded models pass me by, I cannot afford to upgrade.
Fortunately (?) the D80 is still a current model and the D300 is next in my sights, but at just a few quid short of a grand for the body alone, it's just a pipe-dream for me anyway.

Well, in my case, after getting my first DSLR, a 10D; I passed on the 20D, 40D, 1D MkII, IIn, 1Ds etc. I've even slowed down buying extra lenses - but then I've been buying over many years.
Now that I've got the sensor clean on my 1D MkIII, it does seem to be staying clean, and it would be good to have this facility and a slightly snappier frame rate on my 5D - say 6fps. I've yet to find a real use for LiveView, and I'd like to be able to name the in-body stored settings options on the MkIII. ("Set1 Set2 Set3" doesn't tickle my memory cells.)

I can't see myself buying another APS-C sensor sized DSLR. I'm more than happy enough with what I have to wait until it goes the way of other electrical goods and stops working. The scary thing is - is it worth buying APS-C/DX type lenses knowing that they'll be great for as long as the body still works, or better to hold off for a 'proper' lens.

The 40D is my first and last APS-C sized DSLR. I am very happy with it...I think it's a fantastic camera...but because I am so happy with it, I have no reason to get the 50D or whatever is next.
Nope, I'd rather just get some good glass, be happy shooting with what I've got, and then one day buy a full-frame camera...mainly because I value the wide end more than the long end and what with noise levels improving all the time, I can only imaging that the performance of the future FF models will be fantastic...
Which is why I don't plan on buying any more EF-S lenses. I bought the Tamron 17-50mm as a price compromise...but as I will eventually go full frame, I wont be buying any more (despite it being very good!).

If I ever go FF I'll have to sell my Sigma 30mm f1.4, it's a good lens and someone will get a bargain. I suppose I could just leave it on my 20D as the 20D will probably not be worth selling and a 20D with a 30mm lens will be a nice thing to use now and again.

Painful, isn't it? For example, I really want the Pentax DA 21mm Ltd, as it is tiny and is a perfect match for my K100D. Or, I could spend less and get a proper 35mm for my Nikon (film) and still use it if/when going FF in the future. Decisions decisions... Getting the 35mm means walkabout camera is film, so no flexibility with ISO etc. Getting the 21mm means smaller package, more likely to use and ISO flexibility.

The only reason I upgraded from my D70s to a D300 was the vastly superior noise handling of the D300. It has been a painful upgrade though, I had to sell two fine lenses to afford it, but the benefits should be clear when I hit the Edinburgh Festival at the end of the month.
Had I not got aspirations to earn some cash from photography, the D70s would still be fine for my needs. In fact, it's still a dman fine camera now.

I think that's the right attitude Alan.
If you're happy with the equipment you're using then you shouldn't rush out to buy whatever is new on the market.
I jumped ship as I wasn't happy.

Most of my recent expenditure has been on better lenses and I think this is likely to continue as and when the money allows...
As far as cameras go I'm still getting the results I want from the D30 and 20D all the more so now I have some better performing lenses.
Nonetheless there is a temptation to get a full frame...

I will do Andrew. Although if it's anything like last year it will mean getting to bed c4 or 5am, up at noon, trying to sort through the previous night's shots in the afternoon and then solid shooting all through the evening into the small hours until a massive blow out on the final night! I'm sure I could squeeze a pint of two in though

I'm more than happy with my camera. I can't currently imagine wanting to upgrade. But that's not to say that I wouldn't upgrade if the right upgrade came along!

The 1D MkIII has a very quiet mode which hardly features in the specs. It's both quiet at the taking, and quiet later when you lift your finger off the shutter button. It's not just a question of separating the two actions - I'd guess the drive voltages/power or whatever have been reduced as well.

The 40D has a quiet shutter mode....saw something in the manual but never tried it so don't know what it does!
