I have an OM4Ti and use the Dioptic adjuster on the side of the prism to correct my gradually deteriorating vison. This weekend I bought a Varimagni Finder but can't find any info on how to use it's Dioptric settings in conjuction with those on the camera, not even in the official manual. Should I set the camera adjustment to 0 or does the Varimagni work independently irrespective of the camera's adjustment?
As the item hasn't delivered yet I can't test myself so I thought I'd ask the forum.

OM4i, mmm lovely.
The Varimagni Finder has a ribbed ring immediately below the rubber eyepiece. This rotates to adjust the focus so you can leave your diopter setting alone, set the finder to suit and then you should not need to make any further adjustments.

Thank you for your advice, I purchased the Varimagni as I have been struggling with bird shots using 300 & 500mm lens'. As you would know, even with fast films the depth of field is non existent which is ok and all prt of the fun until you put my dodgy eyes and a pair of Gold Finches swinging on a wind blown feeder into the mix!

The Varimagni has its own adjustment. This works in conjunction with the vf diopter adjustment.
IMO the most convenient way to make the adjustment is as follows:
With the Varimagni not mounted on the camera (i.e. using it as a low power telescope with a right angle bend in the tube) switch it to x2.5 and focus it so that objects approx. 1 meter away are in focus. (Wear your glasses if you need them for distance!) This way the focus is the same (or very nearly so) whether it's switched to low or high power.
Then use the diopter adjustment on the camera to focus the Varimagni when fitted to the camera.
You can leave the diopter adjustment alone & just twist the Varimagni focusing but if you do this there is likely to be a big difference between the low & high power settings, which is annoying.

I'm still not 100% about this, it's probably me  and not the explainations I've had, if the adjustment on the camera is correct for my eyes does the Varimagni Finder focus on that point? If so, am I correct in thinking that I need never touch the camera adjustmant again but do fine focussing via the Varimagni, when fitted?
