a Spotted Flycatcher. They are rather good at catching flies.

That's very well taken with good detail in the feathers. If you cropped some off the top of the image do you think the bird be more focal in the picture - looks a bit lost to me. Having said that though I have a similar problem with small birds - can't get close enough. Lisa.

Thanks lisadb. The pair of Flycatchers have a nest in a carport at work and I was only about 15ft away from the bird @ 200mm but needed to crop first image. You're right,the poor thing does look a bit lost . I'd love a longer lens.

Good at catching flies and you caught it with one in it's mouth I quite like the pic but think it would be nicer to get the tail in and in a perfect work on a natural looking perch.
Is it just me or is this a bit too compressed with lots of jpeg jaggies? 2nd file isn't even 10K here.

They go off hunting and come back to land on the planks every time because the nest is very close. I'll try from the other side to get the tail in.
