Looks pretty good to me. I don't like pop up flashes much but at least it can be used instead of an SU-800. I think I'll be getting one.

To be honest though, If I saved up that much, Id end up saving an extra £500 to get the D3!

I'm interested to see what you need to get in order for the grip to function to it's full potential. If it's anything like the D300 then the price of a D700 and grip plus extraswon't be far off the price of a D3.

The price will drop pretty soon. I also like smaller, lighter cameras. I use my D80 much more than the D2x just because it's nice and light.

Hi N_N,

What you state is exactly true; the D700 takes the identical accessories as the D300 which,
IMVHO, is a bonus for D300 users with a hankering for the D700 or a Full-Frame Nikon DSLR.

I say this, because if someone has the D300 (and 8 fps accoutrements) they can interchange
them with the D700 until, of course, they want to have the 8fps accoutrements for the
D700

Cheers,

Jack

Ofcouse, if the D700 offered a cropping mode like the D3 then you wouldnt need the 300. Seems like a good camera to me, and 5fps is more than enough for most people.

Hmmmm, yes, cross compatability is good, but would I want to be swapping grips all the time? Probably not, I'd look to have one on each body. If I didn't have a D300, what would the price dfiference be between the D700 with grip and accessories and the D3?

Hi N_N,

The difference (in over here $) would be:

D3 - $5,000 plus 12% taxes = $5,600

D300 - $ 3200
MB10 - $ 280
ENEL4 - $ 160
MH22 - $ 220
BL-3 -- $ 40
****************
SubTotal= $ 3,900
+ 12% taxes
DA TOTAL = $4,360

And, of course, the "over here $" are CDN $

And, of course, we just received our D700 brochure

Cheers,

Jack
