D60 and Tamron 55-200mm F4-5.6 AF Di II LD Macro

I have a D60 with standard kit lense

The Tamron 55-200mm F4-5.6 AF Di II LD Macro seems to be a bargain (£50)

Understand that its not AF on a D60. Not too worried, I can use the range finder thing (and I've come from a Minolta X300 with manual focus primes)

Any other downsides , seems ok for the money ?

yes - another downside is that it is not that wonderful a lens. Try spending a bit more and getting Nikon's own 55-200.
Don't forget that you do not get the split circle thing in the viewfinder of a dSLR, you really will be relying on the yellow dot to indicate when you have achieved focus
