FZ 8 and Raynox DCR - 150 macro lens - compatible ?
      #669341 - 21/06/2008 06:35

I've been using the FZ8 for a while now,but have been unable to get the standard close up lens and adaptor here in New Zealand.
Since I mostly take macro shots,a friend in England has kindly sent me a Raynox DCR 150 macro converter lens.
My camera came with no lens adapter of any kind and I'm not even sure of the size of the screw thread on the camera body. The Raynox has a 43 mm thread which is at least 10 mm narrower than the cameras.
Does anyone know if it is possible to marry the two and how I would go about it ?
Cheers
Steve

You need a stepping ring - or more likely two as 10mm is quite a jump. These are the thing you need to be looking for...

Be aware that as the add-on lens is that much smaller than the camera lens you may see a bit of vignetting...

The thread size may be written on the back of the lens cap.

Well if the FZ8 is like the FZ7 then there will be a lens hood adaptor thing that came with it. Throw the lens hood away(it'll drive you crazy trying to get it on!) but keep the adaptor. It screws onto the lens and the other end has a 52mm thread, perfect!

Thanks Larry,
I tried that initially but the Raynox was way too small to fit onto the lens hood adapter.
I was also having difficulty tracking down the right step down rings here .... BUT ....
My friend from England finally sent me over his adjustable adapter thingy, which solved the problem.
Now I'm happily snapping the tiniest itsy bitsy little things.
Thanks for your helpful suggestions.
Cheers

Thanks again Larry,
You know, its funny....when I saw 'numanoid' I immediately thought of Gary Numan (I even sillilly thought, hmmm, imagine if Larry was really Gary,LOL)
Well, imagine my surprise when I clicked on your link to find the Gary Numan banner.
I love Gary Numans stuff too,and had a few of his albums.
Also really liked John Foxx - 'Metamatic'

I've only taken a few shots with the Raynox yet,but you can see one of a tiny Aphid larva next to a sewing pin here:

There's another one of a New Zealand hoverfly there too.
Most of my other macros on Trek Nature are just taken on normal macro mode on either the FZ8 or the FZ5 and FZ2 I had earlier.
Cheers

Ah cool another numan fan! There's a rather good forum dedicated to him, http:www.numanme.co.uk
