Gents,
I was wondering if someone could recommend a piece of software that batch resizes/rotates images with minimal loss of quality (as I understand it, a bicubic resample is the most accurate kind)?

There are countless software packages that will do what you want. The most important requirement is that rotation is done 'losslesly'. That is, the image is not re-saved and thus re-compressed. I think Irfanview is probably as good as any, and it's free.

Thank you. Does Irfanview batch resize? I can only see the option to batch rename/change file type?

It's some years since I used it but I do remember it did. You set a maximum height and width and it resizes to fit inside the box. This enables you batch resize a mixture of portrait and landscape images.

Select "Batch conversion" in the "File" menu. Click on the "Advanced" button in the window that pops up ... there is a section for resizing.
I'm using v4.10 if that's any help/relevance.

Brilliant! It was the Advanced Options that I had not tried! Thank you both your time and efforts, it is really much appreciated.
Interestingly what resolution (in mega pixels) do you both shoot with? I find myself shooting high (about 6mb) for as much clarity as possible, therefore if I wish to crop I am able to do so liberally. However, I end up reducing most of my file sizes for reasons such as storage space, digital editing time (which is faster on smaller files) and presentation purposes as some files can be ridiculously large in size.

Nothing but RAW on Canon 5D (12MP) and Canon 40D (10MP). Converted to full size TIFF in Canon Raw Image Task. VGA resolution JPEGs made for quick reference.

Raw for me too (1D MK2 N). I leave them as Raw and the majority of my pics stay that way. I use Lightroom to losslessly edit them and print. Very few files do I need to open with Photoshop nowadays. It helps to have plenty of disk space (about 4Tb) so I don't have to worry about file sizes.
