Problem with Rolleiflex Automat exposure counter
      #661796 - 02/06/2008 13:39

Hi
I just bought a Rolleiflex Automat for next to nothing. Appearance-wise it doesn't look great, but mechanically it seems fine. The only problem is with the film exposure counter. With a film loaded and the back off, everything works as it should. Film advance seems even, counter relates to exposure no. etc. However, when I put the back on, it resets the film counter to zero by depressing a small lever in the camera body. Once this happens, the film advance machanism becomes disengaged. I don't have any money to spend on a service, so I was thinking I could simply remove the small piece of metal from the back which resets the counter and just remember to reset it manually with my thumb before closing the camera. Would this be a sensible solution? Bear in mind that I really bought the camera to "mess around" with and while obviously a perfectly functioning camera would be fantastic, I don't mind sacrificing the automatic film counter reset. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Do you have the instruction manual? If not look <here> as I don't think there is anything wrong with your camera - just a misunderstanding of the loading procedure.

Excellent! Seems to work. Thanks for quick reply. My father always used to say: If all else fails, read the instructions!
Thanks again
