This is the first part of a new series of polls that ask 'Which of these three photographers would you most like to have dinner with?' The idea is that we list three photographers and you get to vote for your favourite, or the most interesting, and you can discuss the questions you might ask them. You could glean tips and techniques, just stare at them, or ask them how they took such brilliant/awful pictures.
You can also suggest other names you'd like to see on the list. We'll run the series for at least until the end of the year (though not every week) so we can see who is the most popular photographer. I'll run one for next week too, and then we'll have a break before we do another.
Head to the Home Page to see who is on this week's list.
Thanks for playing
Damien

Well, it's an easy choice for me as David Bailey is the only one still alive! Having said that, I'd see Bailey as being the most fun. Of other photographers, I would tunr down the offer of dinner from Helena Christensen who is often seen behind the camera these days.
Other than that, I think I'd much rather spend the time on a working lunch in the studio or out on location so I could learn something from the photographer and if I were to spend time with one I wouldn't mind picking Rankin's brains.

Well, I can't vote as there isn't an option for "none of the above". Dave

Well if you'd read the question it says "Which of these three photographers would you most like to have dinner with". No need for a "none of the above" option.
Furthermore, if you'd read Damien's post you'd have seen this: "You can also suggest other names you'd like to see on the list."

Went with Capa but would have perhaps voted for another in the Capa 'zone' had he been on the list; Larry Burrows. Tough choice between the two.

I voted Bailey, but mostly so I could get a look at his address book. I suspect Snowdon would provide a better dinner.

For me it would be none of those suggested, my three would have to be :
DO Hill (a local hero for me!), Eugene Atget (but only if my French was up to it) & Diane Arbus.
In the reserves would be Walker Evans (1930's version), Robert Frank (the young version rather than the older grumpy one) and WeeGee.
No takers for Martin Parr? I've met him a couple of times and he's a nice bloke, honest

The original line-up? The classic "Chase the Dragon" era line-up? The just-about-as-classic "On a Storyteller's Night" line-up or even the current post-2001 version of the band?

Tough one. Probably "On a Storyteller's Night" as that's the only Magnum record I possess. I did once have 'Marauder' and a double EP but they disapppeared years ago. Saw them on tour once in the very early '80s. A triple bill with The Tygers of Pan Tang (who???) and Def Leppard. I thought Magnum were the better band on the night.

They still rock - saw them last Thursday on their "Wings of Heaven 20th Anniversary Tour". Took me half the night to remember where I had seen them on the original tour, but it was Birmingham Odeon. Some things are much more civilised about rock gigs these days - the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton had draught Marstons Dragon's Tale on...
Not entirely sure why, but I've seen them more than any other band. Which probably makes me totally sad, but I'm happy with it.

I didn't vote as I wouldn't want to go to dinner with a photographer - I'm sure we'd only bore the pants off each other.

I hate portraiture, it looks what it is, posed! unless its candid. But it would still have to be Bailey, he's brash, flamboyant and was the man of the moment in his time.

I think it's wise never to meet your heroes - I've read biographies of most of mine and they are nearly all complete toss...
Except Linda Smith - she seemed really lovely but not a great photographer as far as I know.

I think dinner with Roger Hicks would be interesting. He would probably be the most likely one to take a genuine interest in my questions. I would find the evening to my liking and I would come away a little wiser. I think the wine and the food would be special too.
