EXIF extractor
      #653887 - 11/05/2008 13:03

Hi guys,

Am thinking of building a database for my photos in Excel.

First question: Does anyone know of any good ready-made programmes that are free? If not then I'll just do my own.

Second question: Are there any good EXIF extractors that I can use to get all the useful info from large batches of photos and export into a csv file so I can get it into Excel easily?

Also, if any of you would like to pass on any opinions on how best to catalogue photos, that would also be appreciated. I know that's a matter of personal preference but it's tricky for me to decide!

Thanks,

Make a directory for each subject / group & symbolically link all the images which belong into it. (One image may appear in many directories without eating up disk space).

This may be at least a partial answer to your second question: http://www.photome.de/home_en.html

Or, having just done a simple search for "EXIF" and "Excel", maybe this will do exactly what you want and, even if it doesn't, you can probably easily hack it into shape.

I use ExifTool for this kind of thing:
