Selling Prints at Markets
      #653528 - 09/05/2008 19:10

Has anyone ever done this? Any advice or can anyone point me at a a list of considerations? I've found a few google hits on selling electronically but I'd like to give a go at selling at a market or fete, but don't even have a clue where to begin looking for considerations/advice.

Ta in advance.

I have considered this idea before now, but never done anything about it! I would need to know how much a pitch was, what sort of things would likely sell, and then you have to produce saleable goods, and this costs money. So this is definitely an idea that will cost you a fair bit before you make anything I considered that mounted prints would be more likely to sell than unmounted so I looked HERE to find out rough prices. I suppose which products you offer depends on where your pitch is? I don't know anything about any issues such as property release or model release required before you can sell prints? Probably not a lot of help but a few things that I have considered! One thing I did consider was a car boot sale to remove junk from the house and perhaps a box of mounted prints available to buy to dip my toe in the water so to speak?

I tried selling a few prints at a local carboot (Bursledon every sunday - its pretty big during the summer) but didnt get very far. Trouble with carboots around here is that people will come up and go "..thats loverly, how much for the frame?" or "...heres 50p for your picture"

Dedicated art markets would be better imo. It is some considerable expense though. If you really want to make money sell glamour and fluffy kittens. Anything arty just dont sell from what I've read.

A local artist has a market stall every saturday, selling original art and photographs. He reckons that the money isn't made from sales on the day, it's the commission work that's generated by public exposure that counts.

have u thought about going to a local pub\bar etc one thats a bit quirky? wine bars are and asking to show them there? a friend of mine does this and makes a bit of extra money. more than covers the cost of printing and framing the shots.
might be worth some consideration?
