Having been inspired by Richard (OneTen) I have been looking for my first Dragons of the year, I have glimpsed a couple over the last week. Then I was eventually in the right place with the right kit – so here they are, all take with the 400mm at Stover Lake (near Trago & Newton Abbot) – I did have my macro, but all these were taken out over the water, a couple may have had the 2x fitted (so equiv of 400 x 1.3 x 2 = 1,040mm) - I will try to ID them later, I think they may well be Hairy dragonflies (I may be being a bit simple, but they do seem to have a lot of hair??) – happy hunting...

The last is also very interesting with the dragon dance?

Hi James, it was a shame there was such a lot of clutter, but I was took the last one across a small pond, I will get better, but it is nice just to out and taking these things again. IT was nice to get2 pairs...

I have been working on some crops from today in Lightroom, must admit I am very impressed – looking forward to getting some more...
Looks fairly hairy to me!!!

I was quite impressed – this was the same 400 x plus Kenko 2x converter, plus 1.3 film factor so the equiv of 1,040mm – I did not like the full frame as I had some nasty reflections, I was a little surprised when I enlarged the centre section... Camera was on a tripod ISO400 1/160” f11

Wow excellent photographs John.
We saw loads of mayflies yesterday and a single dragonfly but would they stay still.... no way jose...

Blimey John! I am SO jealous! We used to get the common red DFs (I cant remember their name) in our garden but over the years they've dissappeared (no running water I'm told)
We still get plenty of common red damsels and some common blue in our garden pond. Fascinating animals. I've managed to get a few shots on my manual 55mm micro nikkor but I crave the longer, newer AF models thesedays.
I do think a polariser is essensial when the sun is infront of you - if only to stop you going blind, LOL!
