      #652609 - 07/05/2008 16:42

Title: Join WDC for day of camera tests.

WDC are planning a group test of enthusiast level DLRs and are looking for three volunteers to help. The criteria for eligibility is:

•You will be able to join us in London on May 15th
•You're an experienced photographer
•You will preferably be in the market for a new £1000 camera, and keen to try out the latest models and provide WDC with feedback.

We will:
•Pay travel expenses
•Provide lunch
•Introduce you to the team behind WDC
•Provide a selection of enthusiast DSLRs and lenses to play with
•Accompany you on a photo challenge around London
•Publish the best pictures of the day in WDC.

If you're interested please email Darren Crush by Monday May 12th (at [Email]darren_crush@ipcmedia.com).[/Email]
Include a link to your online portfolio if you have one.

Thanks,

Nigel

[scratched record1] I hope the suppliers of the suppliers of the 'selection of enthusiast DSLRs and lenses' are not the same suppliers of the National Geographic and Kata bags given(?) away as prizes in WDC? [/scratched record1]

[scratched record2] Is the challenge to beat (preferably with a stick) the PCSO? [/scratched record2]

We need people who can provide a critical, informed appraisal of three quite advanced cameras. If someone has not used a DSLR much before they're likely to think they're all great, but if you're in the market for such a camera yourself and you feel you could make a useful contribution by all means get in touch.
Alternatively we will be doing this with other types of camera too (inc entry level models) in the near future so you may prefer to join us on one of those days out.

I'm still in Slough. Driving all the way down and all the way back in a day. And I haven't got my hire car sorted yet.

Just how "experienced" do you have to be to go to Slough and what do you have to be experienced in?

Fortunately I have managed 34 years so far without having to have experience in Slough

- through subscribers' letter-boxes today - very interesting reading. Our own Bettina and Luis (FujiSigmaNolta) are two of the testers, plus one Darren Greaves whose name I don't know, though he might be a member here under some other username. Ten pages of pictures and analysis, so it's quite a thorough article - well worth a read, and especially if you're in the market for a well-specified DSLR at or around the £1000 level.

I think the mag is in the shops on Friday, for non-subscribers.

To paraphrase John Betjman: "Come friendly bums, fall on Slough." Can't think of a more difficult photographic assignment, so well done, WDC.

Bracknell is my hometown, and I had a girlfriend in Slough when I was about 18. I do remember starting the day there, cycling the 12 miles home, getting bored and cycling back for the afternoon, then comming back home later for college the next day. 36 miles seemed a long way, even then, to ride for some.... err....'company'!

Thanks for the positive feedback. It took a lot of organising but was more interesting than a straight group test done in our usual style. So much so that we're planning another one next month with a different group of cameras. (More news on that shortly).

I'd like to "have a go" on one of these days. Will it be Slough or Bracknell, or "just" London again?

I loved every bit of it, meeting the team including briefly meeting Angela Nicholson, seeing the inner workings of the mag and using all that nice kit. I would do it again...cough,cough,wink,wink.
