Right, my patience with this is getting very thin  It keeps giving me the 6A00 error (which is like it's middle finger). So I promptly mop up all the ink it has deposited on the head cleaning pad, make one print and it gives me the finger again So, I get ink on my fingers, empty ink cartridges and no prints. Of course the printer is now outside its warranty period.
Now, when it does print, I am happy with the quality. The question is, is there a better fix or should I cut my losses? If I cut my losses I would be very reluctant to purchase another Canon printer, so recommendations? I don't want to spend over £150 and I don't need A3. Just something of good quality and economical.

Hi bench_ubbster. I have the same printer (7 months old) but have not had the problem you state though I did have a jam that made me search the web for help and I found this (fixyourownprinter.com) Seems your problem is common to the IP range and a few more. Take a look you’ll find quite a lot of help here.
Before you trash it take a look at the small flap (also has Canon logo on it) that sits behind the main front panel/paper rest. When lowered, this flap raises a metal pressure plate. This plate sits inline with the print head. if the flap is not secure it may drop just a tad (vibration maybe?) and, as in my case, raise the pressure plate just enough to hold back/jam the print head? I tape the flap up now (just in case) and so far have not had a repeat problem.
If you're looking to change be aware of the above concerning the IP range, though I still think they're a good (cheap) alternative to the more expensive brands and as I only print for fun/personal I can't justify the mega running cost (ink at @ 5ml = £ $ rip off!). I'd love an Epson or HP A3 but the ink cost are outrageous! So canon is my choice due to the separate inks an low initial cost.

I got an HP D7360 for my mother and have been very impressed with it. I think it's at the end of its production life now which may put you off but, on the other hand, it's cheaper now than it's ever been (It was over £100 but the link below lists it at just £65). The touch screen and built-in card reader are both useful additions. I think HP's design is a Marmite one, mainly because of its unique approach to the paper path but, if you don't want another Canon, then I think it comes down to either HP or Epson.
