Hi folks,
I plan on taking my new 40D out this weekend and I'd appreciate any tips on locations any of you have visited near York.
In particular, I'm interested in landscape photography and would also like to know about some nice woodland spots in the area.
Cheers!
Steve

Castle Howard is always worth a visit with plenty of landscape opportunities in the surrounding area. For woodland visit the Castle Howard arboretum although it is obviously not as spectacular at this time of year as it is in the Autumn.

There are a few spots in York, have a look on the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust site - Acomb Woods and Askham Bog might be possibilities (might go there myself today to check them out) click the link on here for a list of green sites in York.

Just come back from Askham Bogs and we really enjoyed it. A nice walk round on a chicken wire covered board walk (so you don't slip). Nice pond and woodland with boards giving info dotted around. First time I've been and won't be the last.
Will have to resize my pics before I can upload them. Will post a few when I do.

Hi Rhys,
Did you ever upload any photos from your trip to Askham Bogs? I may go there next.
Castle Howard was good though. Lots of walking involved but well worth it.

No not yet, pics were a bit too big to upload straight to Flickr - didn't take that many, mainly of the pond there. I'll see what I can do in the next few days.
