I shoot every weekend no matter what time of year it is but when it comes down to the number of pictures then I had to pick 'Summer', purely because of the longer days and better light.

Is this poll working correctly? I am absolutely sure I clicked winter, but it is showing 0 winter votes.
In mid-summer out here it's far too hot and the sky is an unrelenting blue. I go sailing at the weekends instead!

I'll quote what I said in the lounge thread
Quote:
Anyway, the summer months are definitely my leanest in terms of photography. The light's too harsh and I'm too lazy to get up early. My most productive periods are spring and autumn (currently going through a very productive period at the moment). Winter's usually good for great light all day when it isn't that unremitting grey blanket of cloud that can last for weeks.
I voted winter.

I don't agree about summer light or the necessity of getting up early - it's an unquestionning acceptance of that orthodoxy that has led to so much sameness about landscape phtoography IMHO. For me, I take more pictures in the summer because there's more chance of me being out and about then - I actually love all the seasons and all weather conditions for photography, but I simply have more opportunities in the summer.

Umm, what happened to spring and autumn? They're when I get out most.

Except that a high sun is not very good for colour photography ... in high summer, if the sun is shining, it's not good light from 6am through 8pm. Even flower photography is better when there's a bright overcast; harsh direct sun is terrible lighting. IMO summer's the season for monochrome.

Hmm... maybe I should order some XP2, and a coloured filter or 2.
I tend to get out with my cameras whenever I get the chance and the weather's not too unreasonable - which basically means I don't tend to go out when it's chucking it down with rain (partly 'coz my cameras aren't weather sealed, but mainly 'coz I don't like it ). Sun, cloud, showers, snow (not that there's been much down here in the SouthWest the last year or two), mist, frost - all can be good.
What I like most about winter is I don't have to get up so early for the sunrise. Other good things are that the light tends to be softer through more of the day and frost / snow / mist can be interesting.

I think I've always done more photography in the Autumn/Winter/Spring but with my new interest in wildlife and macro I think the Summer will provide a shed load of subjects.

I voted 'more in summer' because this is how it is. I'm not sure though that my best shots are taken then. That is a totally different matter.

Pretty much the same all year round.
I think it would depend on what you are interested in Photographing... I never Take a photograph for the sake of taking a photograph.
My interests in my "old Age" are to record the yearly happenings in my locality (Saddleworth)and take progress shots of new developments in the area...
I have been photographing the remediation of land and the construction of a new canal boat marina for the past two years. construction on the site is expected to continue for a further two years. On completion of the project, the Photographs including a large number of panoramas, to give a sense of place, will be handed over to the local museum as an archive. I completed a smaller project just after Christmas and start another in June.
Such work requires getting site permissions from the various interested parties and observing safety rules including wearing the proper safety kit.
many of the photographs could be considered boring but they contribute to an interesting record of work done, methods used and changes made.

I went for about the same though I probably get slightly more pictures in summer due to the longer daylight hours which allows me to get out and about after work.......

Did not vote, as there is no box for 'don't know it's less than a year since I got all enthusiastic again' As 'winter' in London this year was 1 heavy frost in November, 1 foggy day in Jan and 1 day of snow in April who knows these day what season it is anyway.
