Hi All
Recently signed up for the foundation course, so I thought I'd say a quick hello to everyone.
I've recently finished a short open university course on digital photography (enjoyable, if a bit regimented)which re-kindled an interest that I've had on and off since I was at school. So I flogged my old compact, got me a nice shiny nikon, and here I am!
I've almost got mod 1 in the bag, I'm going to go out over the weekend to get the last one taken and then I can get the first module in the post.
I'm going to set up a flickr account or something similar fairly soon, anyone know of any good alternatives? I was looking at zenfolio, costs money but it looks nice, anyone got any experience of that? any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello there - I wonder if anyone could help me? I would like to sign up to one of the courses offered but cannot really decide which course is right for me? Is anyone able to give me more information on the best course for a total beginner in photography who wants to learn from the basics?

Hi Ken,
Welcome to the course. I've set up a flickr account and its been fine so far. I haven't tried any of the others.
Anyway post your link when you have your photographs up, as its always good to see how everyone else is undertaking the course.

Hi, well for a complete beginner there is the Foundation In Photography which covers the core skills of photography for film or digital camera users. This course concentrates on photographic technique, creative techniques and dealing with subject areas such as landscape, portraiture and still life.
If you would like to mix in some basic digital editing with basic photographic technique then there is the Foundation In Digital Photography. This course, while not spending as much time on individual subjects, allows a little more time to be spent on such topics as sizing digital images and adjusting colour and tone in images you have captured digitally.

Hi,
Another newbie here. I've been a 'snapper' for more years than I care to remember - now its time to upgrade to 'photographer'...
I've just started module 1 - need to get some pictures taken.
One quick Q - I can reply to posts, but not start a new topic - is that deliberate or is it me being silly?

Zenfolio: I have mixed feelings on this because whilst it look quite nice, when trying to upload files and or editing info I find it VERY slow sometimes...

Hi All,
I have just sent off application for this course, after reading the bumf and this forum. I am not an entire newbie to photography, but may as well start from the basics, as anything I photograph at the moment could do with improvement!!!

Hi Sandra,
Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. As I said, I've been a 'snapper' for the best part of 30 years (with the ocaisional picture I'm proud of...) but I thought it was time to learn properly.
The course material looks good (only on module 1 so far), but there's plenty to think about.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to these forums, but have been taking photos for as long as i can remember! I got my first SLR when i was 18, and i'm now 40, so it's been a while...... :-)
I'm thinking of starting one of the AP courses, the problem i have is which one is right for me?
I know all about depth of field, exposure, etc etc etc, but where i do struggle is with composition, and generally having "an eye" for a good photo.
Should i start right at the beginning with the foundation course, and put up with any frustration at going over things i already know, or would one of the slightly more advanced courses be more appropriate?
