Hi, I recently invested in a reversing ring from an ebay source and had a play with various lenses, best results so far are with the kit 18-70; set at 18mm this gives about 4x magnificaton, at 50mm about lifesize 1:1
The reversing ring cost £1.99 plus £2.99 P&P from here
To set the aperture of the lens when reversed I used a lens cap modified as in this "shows you how"
At 18mm the distance from the front of the lens to the subject is short, focusing is critical and DOF very shallow so I also used a focusing rail on the tripod.
However it is macro on a budget, a cheap way to find out if macro is for you. So far I've only done a few test shots of the PC screen, when the weather improves I'll try and find a few specimens in the garden.
-------------------- Cheers, MIKE

Got any pot plants? ( no, not the ones you can smoke!! )
Have you got old copies of AP handy? There was an article on Dr Nicholas Phelps Brown mid August last year that may be of interest (think it was the one that was in the shops 14/8/07 but not sure what date would be on the cover...18th?). I really should have kept that one handy....he seemed to know what he was talking about
