Hi all,
Hope you had a good Christmas and are ready for the year ahead.
I got my first module back just before xmas, the comments were constructive AND I was not told to take up flower arranging instead.
So far so good. My tutor did make the comment that my images were of a very low resolution though. I thought I followed the course handbook for sizing the images before submission, to the letter,I thought  i.e. set resolution to 72 ppi and "resample image" ticked. The original files are only 5MB from my camera so this may be the problem.
Has anyone else had a problem with there submitted images, or is it just me 
I am thinking of just sending in the images for the next module copied as jpeg but leaving the resolution alone, and see what happens. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Hi Les,
I usually have the opposite problem - they're too big to fit on to the pen drive! I know it says in the course notes how they would like them resizing, but in later modules the course images provided are quite big themselves, as you start looking at the details. I'll have a look when I get home and see what sort of size I've been sending in. Speak to you later.  Lisa.

Les,
All my images were sent in at 72ppi, the file sizes all typically under 5MB. I also never re-sized any image. I did not receive any request to alter the resolution.
From memory, my Mod 1 did come back with some suggestion on Flower Arranging - did I miss some cryptic message??

My tutor did mention the pen drive, thinking I had made them smaller to fit it. Which was not the case.
Thats not a problem, I have 1GB drives etc I could use. I am worried that as I am about to get a new camera with even larger file sizes he may start saying they are now to large.

Hi Les,
I've just had a look and the file sizes I've sent in vary wildly depending on what the module is about - anything from 800KB to 8000KB. What I seem to have done is looked at the course image sizes for a particular module and resized mine to about the same. The only comment I've had was from Barney who said I might like to ask Laura for a bigger pen drive.  Lisa.

It does vary from module to module but unless the module is about, say, resolution - as in the last module or sharpening then a good guide would be a 1000 pixel image height saved as a maximum quality jpeg. From that a tutor could easily see if you had correctly adjusted levels, righted a wonky image or used the correct white balance setting. All that without crashing their computer or filling up your pen drive with a single image(yes that has happened!)

Just checked the 'Notes and guidance for students' part of the introductory letter I got with my course. It says images should be less than 1000 pixels on the shortest side unless the module booklet asks for a different size.
So all my submissions have been resized to 1280 X 960 at 72ppi unless they've been cropped and I've had no complaints.

A bit of a side track but as several people have referred to USB memory sticks you can get 16Gb sticks, at a price, or more reasonably 8Gb which will hold a lot of pictures.

I use a memory stick to keep my pics. They are great and you are right they do hold a lot of pics.
