You dont realy state what sort of use it will get, so how about the S9600?

At around £240 from warehouse express, I think this is a good compromise between a compact and a DSLR.

A nice bridge camera that looks like a camera, plenty of resolution (9mp) a 28-300mm zoom lens (35mm equivalent) and it also does video, you can get about 1hr on a 2GB CF card.

I've got the S6500fD which is pretty good for a Bridge Camera, The images are not as good as my DSLR's or image quality (what compact is?) but does have the advantage of face detection and manual zoom (a boon) it is pretty light as well and I have got some pretty good images from image, just beware when increasing the ISO. It's also cheap (well under £200).

If you have the D200, have you had a look at the Nikon D40, this might be a better bet than a compact, and pretty small as well, and of course will have better image quality than any compact.

Hope this helps

If you want a good Fuji compact, go for the F31fd.... I think it is just supposed to have been superseded and you can pick one up for around £130. It is a true pocket-sized camera too; I'm well pleased with mine

Second vote for the S9600. You can't beat it for the amount of glass you can replace, from wide to telephoto and macro. Plus you still have SLR like handling.

I think it might be a hard decision between the S6500 and the S9600, completely depending on your personal requirements. The positive features of both of them have been mentioned above, and I totally agree that these are the best cameras Fuji has to offer at the moment. So, if you need to use external flashlight or often have situations in which a rotating display would be helpful, go for the S9600. If you don't, I would recommend the S6500, as it is a bit cheaper and might have slightly less noise.

Yep, but still the 6500 is at £159 there... I totally agree that the 9600 is worth the money, but if you don't need the additional features - why waste £60?
