Dear SPI student
In the next few weeks you’ll see some exciting changes taking place at the SPI:
- The AP Diploma has been updated and renamed the Foundation in Photography. The course remains the same in terms of what students learn, however the module book has been rewritten and the new title helps us distinguish between the two. The new name also reflects the fact that we’ll be offering more advanced, specialist subject courses in the future.
- August will see the launch of our Foundation in Digital Photography, a course aimed at digital beginners that will teach them how to use their camera and basic image editing techniques.
- In September we’ll unveil yet another new course, the Foundation in Digital Imaging Techniques. Students will learn how to take control of their photos using image editing software.
- Finally, we’re updating the Introduction to Digital Imaging module book. Once this has happened, the course will be renamed the Diploma in Digital Photography.
Please note that these changes do not affect students on the original courses: your tutor will continue to provide feedback and mark your work as they have done up to now.
I hope the new structure will provide students with a better understanding of what each course delivers. Thank you for your support!
Kind regards, Laura

Hi Laura,
Will the new Handbook be available on repayment to students who have finished the Diploma? It should be a worthy addition to all our bookshelves.
I'm sure the two digital courses will be attract lots of us too. But are there also ideas for further courses building on these three?

I joined the new Foundation course in September and complained then that the book was way out of date. Any chance of being able to get the new book especially as someone must have known it was on the way when I joined.
Had you told me you were bringing out the Foundation in Digital Photography that is the course I would have joined even if I had to wait a week or two. Its a bit naughty not being completely up front about the change of courses.

Hi terryblakespool
The Foundation in Digital Photography is a completely new course, rather than an update of the one you're enrolled on.
I'm sorry if you feel you're on the wrong course, but you'll note that my post explaining the restructuring of our courses (and the launch of new ones) pre-dates your enrolment by a couple of months. I can't see how we could have been more 'upfront' than that!
Do feel free to call me if you'd like to switch courses, I'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Hi, this course is no longer taking any new students but it sounds to me like the Foundation in Digital Photography would be the right course for you.
You can find out more here,
