Gee ...
      #474672 - 02/05/2007 12:33

... tumbleweed city in here, maybe it's time this forum was rolled up into the Classic Cameras section.

If there's one thing to thank digital photography for, it's the fact that it has driven the cost of second-hand Contax bodies right down. Sadly, some git invented an adapter to fit Contax lenses on Canon cameras, so the lenses seem to be staying pricy. Maybe that nice Mr Demoulder could write an authoritative piece in AP explaining why it's a bad idea to do this (like it causes sensor rot or something) so I can pick up some lens bargains too.

It's not working - Ebay is still full of Contax to Canon converters, and even some for Olympus now.

It doesn't say much for Canon lenses, does it?

Carl Zeiss lenses seem available now for many mounts. Nikon, Hasselblad, Leica/Voigtlander, Sony/Minolta, Screw M42 and Contax/Kyocera in native mounts plus the several adapters which are available. I sure there's more I missed.

I know Zeiss are making new manual lenses in various mounts, I just want to buy some s/h Contax-fit ones cheap!

Serves you right for being a skinflint!

I enjoy using my 25, 28, 50, 85, 135 and 180mm Zeiss lenses on my Canons...

They say the first signs of sensor rot are fringing at the corners of the frame, and 5D's are particularly susceptible to it ...

It says "Canon have a much shorter lens to focal plane distance, a bigger lens mount and therefore it's much easier to make a converter that works without optical correction"......

Anyway, Zeiss don't appear to think Canon lenses so bad that they can offer their lenses in a native Canon mount - unlike Nikon lenses...

No - it says 'Some Canon owners would rather use old Zeiss manual focus lenses on their cameras than Canon's own lenses' - why might that be?
