We have negotiated a fantastic discount for all students interested in purchasing Adobe Photoshop CS3. Please use the details in your course welcome letter to contact our distributor and purchase CS3 for only £217.37 - that's £600 off the usual retail price!
This is a complete version of CS3, however it is not upgradeable and cannot be used for commercial purposes.
For a reminder of how to purchase it, please contact me via the forum at Laura_Bianco or call 020 3148 4326.

£600 off! are you sure?
sounds good, so our £217 + 600 must mean we can get the £817 CS3 Extended version, and not just the standard version that costs much less. Just to be sure...
Please confirm what version this offer applies to: CS3 Standard, or CS3 Extended.
ALSO, is it a version that cannot be upgraded.
What about CS or CS2 users who have the full and properly (legally) licensened versions? Can we (as a CS2 user myself) upgrade to CS3?
And just as a last comment, I must tell you that the price of Photoshop CS3 in the USA is half what it costs here in the UK. I can only assume that the price to US students is the same - half.
Please help us Laura!

Asking the question twice early on a Saturday morning isn't going to bring Monday along (and an answer) any quicker!!

Fair comment. I thought my second post added more information to the first and therefore would afford Laura to be better placed to answer.
No offense intended.

I'm happy to clarify matters:
There are two 'education' versions of CS3 – one at about £140 which is for students in higher education only (ie universities). The second version is the one we're offering SPI students: less restricted and therefore a little more expensive at £217.37 inc. VAT This version of CS3 can’t be upgraded and is not for commercial use.

Hi Laura,
are you saying the version SPI are offering can't be upgraded? As when I asked you about it earlier this month in a PM you told me that it could! Lisa.

My apologies for the confusion. I have been informed that only the business version of CS3, which costs £699 + VAT, is upgradeable.

Hi, I had found a FAQ which implied educational licenses were upgradable and could be used for commercial private work - Adobe Education FAQ - could you double check with Adobe UK as it may make a big difference to people. Sometimes Google searches fid 'old' FAQs!! I couldn't find a pre-sales email contact on Adobe's website to check.

Hi Shaun,
Unfortunately we are only able to offer CS3 for use on "fun" and "personal projects"
Educational licenses are upgradeable and can be used for commercial private work. We are offering a £600 discount and as part of the conditions agreed with Adobe we are unable to offer upgrades as well. Many Thanks

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I bought CS2 through the course deal, when I started the course in Autumn 2006. Late last year, we bought a Mac (having been on PCs up to then). I contacted Adobe direct and asked them whether I could switch my software for Mac software, and they said that was fine but I had to upgrade to CS3 at the same time as CS2 was no longer available. In theory the switch from PC to Mac software was free, but I had to pay the normal upgrade fee to get CS3. But now I have the full version of CS3.
The process to make the switch was slightly tortuous (but I don't think that was any different to what anyone else would have had to go through), and I kept expecting them to come back to me and say that I couldn't do the upgrade, but they approved it and it all went through.
I know this is slightly different to what you're thinking of, but worth bearing in mind when CS4 comes out!
