Comment in itself is fine but knocking the interpretation of the topic either by the snapper or the judge cannot be right. These are both subjective and singular to the individual. In themselves they are opinions and we must allow them the right to hold these. Whether we agree or not is immaterial and too much time has been spent in putting forward other singular views, which, in the context of a competition, are redundant.

Yep that's about it Peter!

I'm really stunned that 'street photography' seemed to be picked up on. Last year imo there were loads that were way out of Garry's brief or even the subject title to my mind yet still hit the top spot, to the point where I got totally miffed and didn't see the point of entering, quickly realised lifes to short though But this year it was stated clearly that interpretation could be very broad and there has been no brief.

Shooting there was a joy and this is probably my fav shot from my whole time in India.

I really like Robert's shot and I think the moment in Crymble's photo is cute as hell.

I would say neither Tan. It's probably directed specifically at me and others who voiced genuine concerns and feelings about Ian's photo. Speaking for myself I can categorically say that in no way were my comments meant to decry or offend Ian in any way as I have tremendous respect for him both as a person and as a photographer. It is regrettable when any honestly expressed comments cast a "sour note" over what is clearly intended to be a "fun event" but I make no apology for what I have said as it was said with honesty and sincerity and if I know Ian as well as I think I do, then I think he can at least respect me for that though he may personally disagree with my views.

I obviously can't speak for Ian but I'm sure he wasn't offended Will and from what I read he half expected Alan to pick up on his picture.
Had it been me I would have been miffed for the reasons I stated above but come on if you can't have a lively conversation about pictures what's the point of having a comments area is it just for us all to come along and say that's 'nice' ! Yes it's for fun, any one would be mad not to realise this but so is healthy non malicious debating, none of us are beholden to agree all of the time in the name of 'fun' where's the fun in that!

Absolutely Tanya. I would never expect agreement from such a diverse set of opinions as we have here on the site....................and thank god for it, but I also thank god (or Chris in this case...........who is God anyway! ) that we have an ability to express honestly held opinions here in the form of our comments. As long as these are honestly held views without malicious intent then I think they are very welcome.
