Tell us what you think

We want to know what you think about What Digital Camera (magazine and website). Tell us which bits you like, which you don't, what you'd like to see more of and which you'd rather see less of. Post your comments here (or you can email us at wdc@ipcmedia.com).

Thanks.

Re: Tell us what you think

Hi Nigel

I can't believe no one's yet got back to you about the magazine.

Personally i love it, the new format is brilliant; everything in it works for me, be it the group tests, WDC investigations (e.g flash), news, help, the excellent buyers guides, technique guides & the learning zone, etc,etc the pages & text are clear, bright and very easy to understand.

I do have 2 questions though, i bought the d-slr summer special and the final scores did'nt match the main magazine, was this becuase it was a more in depth review and a one off special.

Some see it as a gimmick others like to see/get them; and that's freebies, is the magazine likely to see any increase on this front, i don't know what your sales figures are like, I'd imagine pretty healthy ?? Banging on a cheap and cheerful blower & lens cloth etc "may" help shift more numbers.

I've been a subscriber since the start of the year and going on what i've seen so far, I'll definetly be renewing this year.

Regards

Dave

Re: Tell us what you think

Hi Nigel,

I don't buy WDC every month (shame on me) but it's the only general Digital mag I buy. It's generally good although quite a bit of the non DSLR content isn't of interest to me.

Re the Website, pretty good, I like the equipment reviews online together with the sample images (full size files would be better). The minus points are a few broken links and trying to access the forum from the WDC site takes you to a cut down version of the AP forum (obviously no film related sections but the new WDC sections aren't there either). Also I can't log in via WDC as I registered via AP.

I suggested this some time ago on the AP feedback section, would it be possible to make Camera reviews available to purchase in the form of a downloadable pdf including RAW and jpeg/tiff sample image files. I appreciate that not everyone would be able to open raw files but it would certainly be of interest to those considering upgrading from their current camera to a higher spec one from the same maker.

Richard

Re: Tell us what you think

Thanks for the input guys, this is a new forum and I don't think many people have noticed it yet.
Glad you like the new format Dave. We're constantly refining it. What Digital SLR was a compilation of DSLR tests (about 10, I think) taken from AP, so the scores were theirs. I didn't have a lot to do with producing that, but I have been involved with WDC's own 'compilation' issue that comes out later this month. If differs from the WDSR? mag in that it covers more products (369, inc compacts, lenses, accessories etc) but in a lot less depth.
We've done a lot of covermounts in the past. Personally I have mixed feelings about them. That's not to say we won't do any more, but that's a marketing dept decision.
Richard, the website is a bit of a mess at the moment but we're about to revamp it. It takes a while though. The forums should all be visible on both sites. We did try having some visible on only AP or WDC but it caused more hassle than it was worth so they should all be 'on' from whichever site you enter.
We've scaled back our compact coverage in recent issues and given more prominence to DSLR accessories, but we've no plans to drop them altogether just yet. Its just a question of finding the right balance and we're still experimenting with that.

Keep the comments coming, they're greatly appreciated.

Re: Tell us what you think

It's the only serious digital-only mag, IMHO. I like the balance - I think it's just about right, and doesn't patronise the reader, unlike one or two digital mags.

AP has filled all my photography magazine needs, but I'll try the next WDC issue as well to see what I think.

Our local tescos has both of them side by side..aaah. Local Smiths as well, and the newsagent.
I bought the WDC on the weekend. Like it. But cant afford two mags in one go, so I'll probably buy AP and WDC thus 80:20

on second thoughts make that 75:25, cos so far I'm impressed with it

Re: Tell us what you think

You should be able to find it in all branches of WH Smiths, plus major tescos and sainsburys (and some other supermarkets) and some independents. At the bottom of the WDC home page nav bar is a 'find a newsagent' link in which you enter your postcode and it gives a list of nearby stockists.
If you still can't find it please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Re: Tell us what you think

I very much prefer to have What Digital Camera than to the Amateur Photographer as I couldn't afford a £2.20 a week for AP. (Never mind the Subscription of AP!)

I would only purchase the AP when it contains articles that I am interest in.

Re: Tell us what you think

Having been a subscriber to AP for a long long time, I have not seen a copy of WDC.

I might just get a copy and think about taking subscription to this as well.

Thanks for the hot shoe bubble, by the way.
