Has anyone had any problems with the new (30mb/s) 4gb Extreme 3 compact flash memory cards, especially with trying to upload raw files from the camera (A200) to pc, either direct using the usb or card reader ?. I'm having problems trying to import raw files (first time i've tried), the card was bought from play.com and to my knowledge they have'nt got a rep for selling fakes etc (I've never had problems in the past). All i get when trying to open the images after transfer is; this file may be unsupported or damaged & cannot open ....... .arw this file may be corrupted, any ideas please?. I use Adobe lightroom/elements 4 & Sony image convertor. |

Which software are you using to try to open them? It may be you need a later program or the latest update. |

Dave, Couple of questions first... Have you tried it with any other cards? Are you able to transfer JPEGs in the same way? According to the Adobe website, Lightroom should work with Sony A200 raw files. But only from version 1.4.1 What version are you using? |

Version 1, which could explain a few things. Not being a great fan of raw I very rarely use lightroom, i was experimenting becuase I'd heard that A200 raw files come out a lot better than jpeg files (quality wise). Sony's own Image data convertor cannot open the images either, which should rule out a software problem. Jpeg files work with no problems at all, with either programme. I would'nt have thought there was a problem with the camera or usb cable and becuase I had no problems uploading raw with my A100 and software, I'm leaning towards the memory card as being faulty, I can't believe play.com would sell knock off's, I'll get a cheapy from somewhere else & will try it to confirm things. Annoyingly I have'nt got a memory stick duo adaptor, if i had I'd have been able to check it out with my PSP's 2gb memory stick. While on the subject of the adaptor I'm amazed how much they go for on ebay, it's cheaper to buy a 4gb extreme 3 with "only" jpeg functionality ![]() In jpeg mode I've set the camera sharpening to +1, what other adjustments could I make to help produce out of the can photo's, I'm very happy with the camera but having looked at thumbnails raw definetly looks to be the better option, are there settings that'll get me as close to raw quality as possible. (as mentioned I'm not a fan of raw). |

Are you using the copy of Sony Image Converter which came with the a200 ... or did you have a copy from when you had the a100 and are using that? |

Wot a "DIV" I am !! ![]() You were spot on Roger, I can now view & alter raw files to my hearts content, it was an older version i was using (that came with the A100), which you rightly guessed. Becuase i always use elements 4 for jpegs I'd never bothered with my raw reading programmes & it did'nt dawn on me that the A200 would have a newer version, probably not helped by the fact that I'd only bought the A100 last Sept, your question and Fen's comments about lightroom turned the light bulb on, thanks guy's, I'll go hide in a dark closet now. |
