Canon printer inks

I have a Canon i9950 printer and it uses 8 ink cartidges and the cost of these is sheer punishment. To replace all 8 can cost around £70-£80 inc p&p. How can Canon justify these prices? I know people who now have all their printing done professionally because of the cost of printer inks. My Canon will do A3 but it would cost an arm and a leg!
I gather that look-alike inks don't work and fade so I seem to be stuck with Canon inks. I did buy one cartridge cheaply but I threw it away because it looked nothing like the original Canon ink and I thought it might damage the printer.
Anyone know of a cheap source of Canon inks for the i9950?

I always buy Canon ink from them.No VAT,Free Delivery.
Veruy reliable.Bear in mind that inks are used up at different rates and you never replace more than 1 or 2 at the same time.Hope this helps.Cheers Dave

Dave - my thanks. The site you mention looks to be the one I need. No VAT and free delivery! You are quite right about never needing more than 1 or 2 inks at a time - I presently just need two.
Places like Cartridge World do offer cheap refills but people don't seem to think this is a good idea. I will just have to grit my teeth and bear it.

You`re welcome.IMO it`s a waste of time and money using cheap ink.Always use Canon ink for best results.

Dave - I would never consider playing mind games with anyone! My job is to make people happier and help them learn to live with themselves. Not easy. All we have is love and forgiveness but I'm afraid people just don't understand this. I have been a practising psychologist for over 50 years and I have seen so many families totally destroyed because they simply will not forgive each other. To err is human and to forgive is divine.

Muffin,I wasn`t seriously sugesting you were playing mind games.It was a feeble attempt at humour and in no way meant to offend.I studied Psychology many years ago but have no qualification in it.What you do is highly commendable.

If you're not in a tearing hurry, 7dayshop have decent prices (but do add P&P). I tend to keep a complete set of spares in stock and reorder when I need enough to make it worth an order. (CLI8 - 6.99/cart; BCI6 5.69/cart [depending on colour])
I tried a cheap replacement once and didn't like it at all. Poor colour rendition made me take it out and flush the head through by printing a sheet of fading cyan to get as much as possible out as fast as possible (in case of head blocking).

Dave - I was not in the slightest bit offended. Humour is essential which is why the 'Life of Brian' was so necessary!
The estimable Rabbi Blue says that religion should be a home not a prison and psychology is my home. I try to exercise psychology in a reasonable way but it is difficult particularly since the collapse of the family.
Back to inks - I did discover 7 Day Photoshop all by myself and it could be cheaper. My i9950 does produce super prints when I get it right but I worry about fading even with Canon inks. How Canon justify their prices beats me.
My thanks for all the replies and helpful advice.

Dave - sadly PhotoGlossy have just told me that they are out of stock of the PM cartridge and it will be about two weeks before I get one. Curses. My PM cartridge is empty and I cannot print anything. I ordered a Yellow - which was low - but that would still print. The lesson is simple - when the printer says a cartridge is dying that is the time to act! Before it dies!!
My problem is that my crazy wife is cat mad and she is waiting for finished prints of our two cats who govern us totally. She is a psychiatrist - take my advice NEVER marry a psychiatrist. It gives a whole new meaning to marital abuse. I bet you don't get told that you are still in the paranoid-schizoid state.

Muffin, where are you based in the country? If close to Exeter, PM me and I can loan you a BCI-6PM cart until your replacement arrives. Sadly, postage costs would make sending it to you uneconomical.

Dave - exactly the same thing has just happened to me! They said it would take 7-10 days and I have just had an email saying both items have been dispatched and will be with me in 3 days. The marvels of the computer world. When I retired in 1988 there was no Web and look at things now. I have become completely dependent on my computer but it does have advantages. When I want to buy something I can get opinions from users and even get whatever it is at a cheaper price. The computer will take over the world.

Nod - you are most kind. If only all people were as kind as you towards each other my life would be a lot easier. I live just north of Manchester airport which is a long way from Devon but my thanks for your offer. We are awaiting the weather that you are sending us today. I gather it will not be good. We have an Icelandic high and that is very bad for a UK summer. Ah well!

Dave - I received both my carts today from PhotoGlossy! Exactly what happened to you. I am now back printing again - all portraits of maladjusted cats. Take my advice never get married never have children. You cannot afford those and a Canon printer.

Gordon - you have my sympathy. I only have one step daughter and two sons. All in their 40's and they have cost me several arms and legs over the years. Chloe went to the Slade and is now an incredibly good artist but sells nothing and lives on hand outs in a garret in London. She has two cats and has acquired two more from neighbours.
Our two cats bring in mice at the rate of two a day and we have mice everywhere. The older cat loves fighting dogs and we get repair bills from the vet you wouldn't believe.

There you go, glad it worked out OK.I cannot take your advice since I have been married for 34 years and have two sons the elder of whom has his own house.The younger is now 29 and shows no sign of departing.I fear ee`re stuck with him .I too am a cat person.ATM we have just the one rescue cat who,7 months down the line, has turned into quite a character.BTW my Canon printer came at a bargain price from Park Cameras.Good luck with the printing

Dave - There you are. Nod has no pets and no children but he has two Canon printers. We can only afford one each because we have to feed both cats and children and buy cars and houses and such. We learn a lot from our cats and they control us totally. They can hear the electric blanket switch on from a mile away and then they arrive on the bed covered in mud and wet through. My dear lady then dries them on my lovely warm towel hanging over the bathroom radiator. I am hoping to shift her towards using her towel but it will not be easy.

You obviously need to stop feeding your printer, then you could afford to buy the cat its own towel. (And a mansion to live in, with an unlimited supply of mice!)
