Fabulous, wonderful film news!

Well, for some of us - Rollei have announced a new film. A B&W film. A B&W reversal film. A B&W reversal film that you develop in normal dev! Including Rodinal!

Here's the announcement, and here's the Babelfish translation:

"Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 - official information to the Agfa Scala successor

The "Rollei Retro Slide direct 50" directly in conventional developers e.g. Agfa Rodinal is processed. With correct exposure the results will be sufficient very well and for professional requirements. The picture-moderate quality of the new film is particularly suitable for scanning or for the pressure. The neutral black picture clay/tone works during the projection very pleasantly.
Qualitatively the "Rollei Retro Slide direct is superior to 50" films of the kind Agfa Scala in the dissolution! It is equivalent compared with other special films, because it dissolves speed (RHS) of approximately 360 pairs of lines in the Rollei high. The Agfa Scala comparatively approximately 120 under perfect conditions. The Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 is thereby a worthy successor of the unfortunately no longer available Agfa Scala. In addition the Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 is a competition which can be taken seriously to the highly soluble special negative films, which are offered mostly only in combination with specially co-ordinated chemistry.
The "Rollei Retro Slide direct 50" originates from the kind of the diagram reproduction document microfilms and is provided with (orthochromatischen) a half-tone emulsion for the picture-moderate photography!
It could to be applied therefore as successors of films as for the Agfa Scala without its complicated processing! Above all however the high clay/tone values and the simple processing captivate beside that extremely purify grain.
Like the Agfa Scala is based the emulsion on a highly transparent PET Filmtraeger, even with ANTI NEWTON/NO CURLING back coating for perfect a planlage.

Processing:
Develop, stop, fix, waessern, dry: finished dia.
The gradation of the Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 can be steered by use of different developers - kinds:
1. softer gradation, perfectly for later scanning and pressure.
Developer: Rollei RLC low contrast # RLC11
2. normal gradation, perfectly for the projection.
Developer: Rollei RHS high speed # RHS11, or Agfa Rodinal
3. harder gradation, perfectly for writings, reproductions
Developer: Rollei RHC high contrast # RHC11

With a such film the developer/time combinations should be individually prepared.
Simplest processing like a negativfilm (therefore DIRECT) at the comparatively very attractive price.
Immediately the Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 is available as 135-24.
The introduction on the market of the complete Rollei Retro Slide direct 50 of assortment takes place in APRIL 2007, then it also 135-36 is offered, as 30.5 meters to long roller and as roll film.

Kind/prices/delivery time:
RSD1012 135-24 approx. € 5.40 = starting from Photokina 2006
RSD1011 135-36 approx. € 7.10 = starting from April 2007
RSD1001 120 approx. € 6.75 = starting from April 2007"

Prices in Euros.

Now that for me is by a million miles the best news from Photokina!

Certainly good news on the face of it. I hope it'll be rather less grainy than the previous "Rollei" effort apparently is.
