Hi I am after a compact camera for my girlfiends Birthday (end of the month). Only thing if that we are really after a viewfinder (present camera doesn't have one and very annoying in bright sun) Had had a quick look and most of the ones that get good reviews don't appear to have viewfinders. Currently looking at Sony DSC-170 but not sure if this would be a good choice. Any help would be appreciated. |

Thnaks for your help. The powershots do look good, but I know what the other half is like and unfortunately, I think the size of the camera is very important to her. I will take her into Jessops to get a feel for whether she would be happy with a slightly larger compact (I would be!) but suspect it will be between the IXUS and Cybershot. If I could convince her to go for a slightly larger one - do you think the A650AS would be worth getting? It's a shame most manufacturers appear to have done away with viewfinders! Anyway, thanks again for your help |

If you can't persuade her to buy a camera with a viewfinder, then you could always try a screen shade on the back of a camera without one - like this one http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=7735 I have one on my Canon A85, and it does help a lot in sunny weather - and, being velcro'd in-place, it can be removed when you don't need it, leaving only the part of the velcro that is attached directly to the camera body (and that is only about 1mm thick). |

The 720is is, apart from it's looks a great camera. I've got the previous one and it really delivers as at least 80% of my photographs are taken with it as opposed to the SLR. Good in available light also. |
