new camera advice

Looking to upgrade my Nikon D50 in the near future , i am considering the Canon 450d and the Nikon D80 ( no sign of D90 yet )
Not really concerned about using the lenses i already have as i plan to buy better quality new lenses to suit the new body

Would appreciate any views or advice with regard to the two bodies.

Thanks in advance

Jim

Why do you want to upgrade - what features are missing? If you want better glass anyway, why not buy the lenses first, and then upgrade at a later stage (for example when the D90 does come out). Stonkingly good lenses are capable of superb results on even older cameras like yours, so I'd really suggest getting the lenses first.

Similar to Zou, really.... the D50 is capable of taking some cracking photos. What about upgrading the kit lens to a constant f2.8, for instance? Or Nikon's 55-200VR, or 70-300VR? What are the main types of subjects that you photograph?

Re: new camera advice

Although I would of course always endorse Canon (), I am of the opinion that the impact on picture quality these days is as a result of a) the photographer b) the lens c) the camera...in that order.

This is why I, with my 40D, plan on building up my collection of good quality lenses and improving my photography with those before I even consider my next body. I'm happy with the Canon system.

So, I would also advise you to get the lenses you would like first and just wait for the new model rather than switching systems.

^^^ WHS ^^^

In fact I wouldn't even bother upgrading the body unless it became apparent that the new model did something that the old one doesn't and which would be useful for the sort of pictures I make.

Re: new camera advice

Further to my previous comments , made my mind up its either the 40d or d300

The lenses i own at the moment are not an issue as i plan to purchase new zoom and wide angle lenses with vr / os / is to go with the new body

Can afford the 40d and possibly push to the d300 ,but as an amateur photographer purely driven by the enjoyment , I am into mainly landscape with a bit of macro thrown in ,would paying the £400 extra for the D300 be of any benifit to me?
