traditional photography shops in belfast

Can anyone recommend a good traditional photography shop in Belfast, please....??I am travelling up there from Dublin in April and would like to get some supplies and just have a good nose around. Dublin has only one decent shop and I feel very hard done by. Look forward to loads of recommends! June

Are there any? It's several years now since I was last in Belfast, and the best I could find then was Jessops.

Not good news I'm afraid.
There are five entries in the classified section of the Belfast area phone book. One I know has closed down. Two are branches of Jessops. Calumet have a branch but it's in an industrial estate and the only time I went (on spec, at 10am on a weekday morning) the place appeared to be deserted but not permanently abandoned if you know what I mean. That leaves Black & Lizars in Wellington Place (town centre just West of City Hall).

Your description of the Belfast branch could have been equally well used for their branch in Trafford Park, Manchester the last time I found it. Most uninviting - I didn't linger.

ok, thanks all, will check out those couple of places. will have to plan a trip to the uk, by the looks of it, and fill up the van!! regards june

I wouldn't write off Calumet in Belfast too quickly. I agree it doesn't look like much but if you are after supplies you will find that it is well stocked and the staff are very helpful. They are more used to deal with Pro's so it is not the best location for window shopping or browsing.

Well I never got in. At 10am on a weekday not a bank holiday. Not even a sign up with opening hours. It may be the best shop in the world, but blow me if I'm driving miles out of my way to try them again.

Just had an e-mail from Calumet in London to say their shop in Belfast is undergoing a refit and they are operating from a port-a-cabin in front of the shop, just hang on in there,- it should be good when they reopen the shop
