5D - Maxxum 3500xi Flash Unit

I would like advice on whether my Minolta Maxxum 3500xi is compatible with my 5D? I have tried it and it seems to be blowing the image out as if I had just fired a flood lamp. It seems to be extremely powerful and whilst it was fine for my film bodies I was wondering if I ought to get a alternative unit for the 5D, alternatively can anyone suggest a website that might have additional information

The only Sony/Minolta flash guns which are fully compatible with your camera are those with a "D" suffix. The 3500xi is not.
Here is the Sony compatibility chart but it is also applicable to the Minolta 5D.

Hi Rog, thanks for that it is a shame but I guess to be expected. Were it not for it seeming to work on some shots I would have ruled it out altogether. I am now looking to source a unit that is more compatible but early indications seem to make it look as an expensive route.
