There's a CLE and lenses at Camtech - looks a nice outfit but no exactly cheap

Actually Roger thats about average for a kit such as that, I've seen prices over a grand in recent years for similar.
I've actually recently been considering getting a CLE myself, but availability of 'M' mount lenses and their prices does make me think twice

You can always use the Voigtlander screw lenses with an adaptor.

I know Nick, but I was more thinking along the lines of using really good glass e.g. Leica or more hopefully Zeiss on a really superb camera

Believe me, they ARE really good. The original lenses are great - particularly the 40 in either Leitz or Minolta form. The 90 isn't as good as the Voigtlander 90, though. The 28 is also very good, but tends to be a bit troublesome these days - and the Voigtlanders will be every bit as good, if not better - the compact 28 is excellent.

Many thanks to you all. The price at Camtech is out of my range at the present will have to have second thoughts.I gather that only 33,618 came on the market so that will make it expensive.

I had the 40 and 90 when I had my Leica CL. I also bought the snapshot Skopar which I have sitting in a drawer doing nothing. I thought all the lenses were pretty good. I only sold the CL because like so many of my older cameras they were sitting around unused and cameras don't like being unused for long periods.

There's a CLE and loads of lenses and accessories been turning up at a local camera fair for the past few months. You can find listings here. Last time I was there the chap quoted me £450 for the body and 40mm.

If you must thengo for the CLE. More compatible with a wider range of other M lenses, the Minolta range was restricted to 3, and the 28 didn't work particularly well on the CL.
The only real thing to recommend the CL over the CLE is that it is far simpler electronically, and if the meter goes, as it does quite frequently, you can use it as a robust manually metered rangefinder (provided the focus prism silvering hasn;t corroded orhas been re-silvered, and that you don;t want to use any m lenses more tele than 90) the CLE is by far the better bet, though forget minoltas 28mm ( as a letter in this weeks AP presciently reminds us)
if you do buy a CLE buy a couple of x700 or x500's on ebay for spares. The only reason you would want either a CL or CLE is compact size and/or novlety value. The best advice would be to buy a voigtlander (compact) or a real Lieca.
Neither would cost you all that much more. A CL or CLE could cost you dearly as parts are seldom available.
