Yes - I was just looking at the requirements for mod 9 yesterday. They seem to want us to do quite a few photos. On holiday today, so just might see how to get to Heage Windmill on the way back to Staffs this pm. Lisa.

Re: Module 8 discussion

Well my brain's gone. Just been looking through the photos I've taken so far for mod 8 part A. 3 images, 5 shots of each at the different settings of in camera sharpening. Looking through each set and scratching my head I'm thinking 'they all look the same! I can't see any difference between the low setting or the high setting for sharpening' Scratching my head must of caused some static build up as a little light bulb goes off and I realise I'm looking at RAW files. Doh!! Lisa.

I have less work than you, Lisa, for part A. My camera has only 3 levels of sharpening so just 9 in total!

For pat B we're asked to "re-shoot" images we took for mod 1. Do we have to re-shoot exactly the same scene as before or can we just shoot different scenes but stick to the same theme?

Re: Module 8 discussion

I've just reread this (having been shocked that Les was on module 8 already!). That's quite a major task to go back to the pics for module 1 (I had read it as reshoot part A of mod 8 - so much for my speed reading!!). I'd have to go back to where we went on holiday at that time, mind you it was a great holiday, so I wouldn't complain too much Not sure Mr Carole would totally buy it though .

Ugh, just remembered that I was up at the crack of dawn (literally) for one of mine - I had to get up to get milk for the little one at that time, so forced myself to stay up and take the sunrise shots, (and I'm glad I did), but that's going to be really tough now

Mind you, I'm some way off mod 8 at the moment - I haven't done anything for this course since early December ..... long (and boring!) story, but that's why I haven't been on the forum recently - been lurking, but nothing to contribute as mind has been elsewhere. Hoping to get restarted again this week (and sounds like I'd better get in training for getting up early in a few months' time for that recreation of my mod 1 pics!!!!). Despite it sounding like a tough assignment, it sounds like it will be really interesting - see how far we've come in that time (............ or not??!?!?!?!)

Carole

Hi Carole
You frightened the life out of me, I thought I had been doing the modules in my sleep instead of just dreaming about them. No, I am nowhere near module 8. Working on mod 3, still not posted mod 2 as I want to redo it as next month as I am treating myself to a new DSLR and will need to do the grey card test over anyway.
Just happens that my old SLR was in this weeks issue of AP. How spooky It shows that I dont follow the trends, its 30 years old this year. Wish I was

Yipeeee!!! just finished mod 8, put it in the envelope and put Elliot's name on it. It can go in the post on Saturday. Phew that took a bit longer than I thought it would. Just in time though - I'm off to Northumberland for the last week in Feb, so if weather reasonable should get some shots for mod 9 b&w. Lisa.

That's good Chris. Hopefully you'll get mod 6 back soon, send 7 off straight away and 8 will be ready when 7 comes back! You could always have a burst of activity and send 7 and 8 off together - Angela wouldn't be expecting that! Lisa.

Ah yes but what if Angela gives you a really great bit of advice in her Module 7 report that you could use to up your marks in Module 8? Or what if you had a question on the report for Module 7 that you wanted to include with your Module 8 submission?

Someone actually sent all their modules in one submission once - bit of a shame as they never got the chance to develop over the course.

I'd go with one at a time.

Hi Lisa,
Ive just looked at you`re Flickr images - I have to say that you have progressed so much since starting the course! Believe it or not, one of my favourite is the one of Kingdom hall - Blaenau Festiniog, I love that style of image which makes you look arround and think a bit.
I`ve been playing arround with an old film camera, do you know I`ve learned so much using it! You have to think just a little bit more before taking a shot...
All the best.

Re: Module 8 discussion

Thanks Chris, APChris & GDN. I agree - I think I'm getting better! It's set me to thinking though, there's some other things that have happened as well. My mod 1 pics are really bright and over saturated but that was because I had all the in-camera settings on high. But then again they seem, to me at least, to be more vital and spontaneous. I think I'm stuck in a photographic rut as at the moment I only seem to take photos for the course and not just for pleasure anymore, as I haven't the time to do both. Also, I think I ought to take more photos with people/movement in as I really like 'Sunday in the Park' but have always be frightened of people's reaction, so have stuck to landscapes and still-life/macro as I haven't any family to bully into posing.

I've got till end of Aug really to finish this course. Mod 9 should be mostly done by April, leaving at least 4 months for mod 10. So, when I've finished I think I might have a break for a few months and not start a new course till 2009.

When has you finish date been extended to Chris?

Lisa.

End of August too

I'm trying not to concentrate on just course pics but do keep the requirements for the module I'm working on in mind when I'm out with the camera so at the moment everything I'm shooting is done at least 3 times (whenever possible) with soft/normal/hard sharpening! I have a folder full of them now that rivals the white balance one for megabytes!

I'm a bit shy of taking pics of people too but I had a go today in Sheffield to get a shot for the monthly comp. No-one bothered me though I did get a few strange looks.

Oh no - not the end of Aug as well! At least I haven't got to worry about beating you with my stuff to Ben any more. He would probably have had a breakdown if two mod 10s had landed on his desk at the same time!

I've had some good conversations with folks at NT properties about photography and they've been very interested in what I've been doing. A wide angle lens helps as it's not pointing straight at 'em and they don't realise they're in the pic.

What are you going to be doing for your project Chris? Lisa.

Re: Module 8 discussion

Not really sure yet and I haven't given it much thought but I do have a germ of an idea. It requires the co-operation of Mrs APchris and I'd need to set up some kind of home studio and get rid of the kids for a few hours (not difficult as they have such hectic social lives these days!)

On the other hand I may opt for something simpler. I need to look at what others have done for inspiration.

What about you?

Re: Module 8 discussion

Cor, Chris, that sounds a bit exciting! Are you thinking of trying to get everything done in one go? I couldn't decide whether it should be a longer, more spread out thing (as in different weather, lighting, subjects etc but on a theme) or if the theme should be a particular type of photogrpahy, say macro or landscape... in which case, it might be easier but could be seen as a bit fomulaic? But what have you got in mind for poor MrsAPChris? Have we to send the course Prozac to her? Do tell!

APchris

Re: Module 8 discussion

Hi tal, I suppose getting it all done in one go depends on the choice of subject, as you say, 'weather' would have to be done over a period of time. My idea is probably best tackled in one go as persuading Mrs APchris to sit for second and subsequent sessions because I didn't get the right shots first time round might be difficult. Having said that though, if it needs more sessions to get the right shots than I'll just have to be very persuasive!

I want to do a study of the human form in the 'Fine art nude' style. Mrs APchris has agreed to pictures in this style before and I entered this one in the forum competition back in 2006 so she might be persuaded again!

The last couple of modules I've got back arrived in a Royal Mail special delivery plastic envelope with a huge size 7 (19" X 13") padded packet inside that had the original A5 padded envelope I sent my work to them in it containing my pen drive!

A bit of overkill, but I guess there must be a good reason for it! How has your your pen drive been returned?

All my waffle goes in a word file on my pen drive - Ben used to print it out then return the pages to me for some reason? but Angela doesn't

Hi Matt, I started Sept 06 (I think ). Stalled big time in the middle of Mod 5, but sent that off a couple of weeks ago, and I went straight into mod 6, which is nearly finished (though going on hol for a week so not going to be finished for another couple of weeks at best ). I'm hoping to get mod 7 done quite quickly after that as that doesn't look too onerous. So, basically at a similar point to you, but via a different route . When do your 2 years run out?
