Eagles? All the way to Malaysia for a picture?

Having 'standard' type lenses doesn't mean you can't get wildlife / nature shots. My grass snake was taken at about 200mm - well within reach of the 70-300mm zooms that seem so popular at the moment.
As Will says - have a go. You may even surprise yourself (and some of the rest of us average photographers).

The lens thing though, I've only got the 18-55mm lens so it hard for me to get close enough to get the decent pics, but where there's a will there's a way I suppose I guess I'm just going to have to get the "green kit" back on and get all commando on there ar$e! lol

I have the sneaking suspicion that he is taking the p*** out of my "portrait of a duck musing as to whether or not the human will give him food" photograph in this months competition!!!

Going by the thread in the lounge referring to the actual definition of 'wildlife'; I'll throw this question open to the forum:

My grass snake was photographed at the British Wildlife Centre - does this make it 'wild' or not? It took three visits to the snake's open enclosure during the day before it came out to bask in the sun, and I had to handhold leaning over a wall, so it wasn't a 'gimme' by any means.
If 'not' then I can ask the moderators to replace it with another entry.

And I'll bet you were going to go on and say that all the themes so far have been very loosely interpreted, and that the key thing about the competition is to get you out there taking snaps.

Also that GCW says "I am simply looking, with my eyes, my brain and my personal photographic experience for the images I find most appealing" - I wonder if he likes fluffy bunnies? ...

Re: Siuya's picture...

I have done a bit a research and I also see that wildlife can include plants and flowers aswell as animals as plants are still involved in the ecosystem that supply animals with their food.

This can be open to debate, but the way I see it, (for me), anything that is 'living' which isn't domesticated is considered 'wild'.

Even at zoos and reserves, the animals (in my opinion) are considered worthy to be called wildlife as even though they might be fed, I still wouldn't like to be in the same enclosure as a tiger

In many peoples views, the term, 'wild' is given to an animal or plant that fends for themselves and isn't domesicated but, like I said - that can be open to debate

Thanks for the responses - that would be my definition, but having tried taking photos of truly wild creatures I am appreciative of the efforts and time that some others have put into getting their shots; by comparison mine was a gimmie!

A great picture from the lens. Is yours the 2004 model lens?

Can't remember exactly when I bought it... it may be, how would I find out?

Not really sure. I think that just means when it comes out and when you brought it was a seprate issue. Im going to look into buying the lens, it seems to be pretty cheap.

Well, in that case, if the 2004 lens is better, that's the one I have

Yeah! I know. I was dead lucky to go. There were loads of turtles about. And I got some reasonable shots of Sealions frolicking in the sea as well.

Images to follow when I get some time.
