A smaller sensor is always going to struggle to achieve the same low noise results as a larger one. I don't have a problem with noise on my a700, but I rarely go above ISO 800, always use raw and try not to pixel peep A program such as NeatImage will remove noise. If you want more contrast/sharpness/colour with jpegs you can always adjust the camera settings.

Thanks for putting the link here Rog, these are the first pictures I have taken at ISO3200, and I must say I am impressed with the lack of noise, was tempted to take similar pictures at higher ISO`s though
