I don't agree about summer light or the necessity of getting up early - it's an unquestionning acceptance of that orthodoxy that has led to so much sameness about landscape phtoography IMHO. For me, I take more pictures in the summer because there's more chance of me being out and about then - I actually love all the seasons and all weather conditions for photography, but I simply have more opportunities in the summer.
