Whenever this updates I always have problems.

The recent update to 5.1 has completely stopped working now! Trouble is, whenever you open DxO it says when an update is available and the only way to get rid of the annoying notification is to update it.

Can't you turn off the automatic check for update? (Tools->General->Automatically check for updates)

Found it! Was under edit->preferences

So, it's turned off.
