Hi Doc, I have just got my first DSLR Samsung GX10 which is the same as a Pentax and heartly recommend it. The layout is easy to use, it is weathersealed and the stabilisation system is in the body not the lens. I use mine with a Tamron 18-250 lens - total cost £600. The best advice was given in the post before - go to a show and have a look. I initially wanted an Olympus E520 but when I tried one in a shop I preferred the ergonomics of the Samsung.
