Adaptive ISO.

Adaptive ISO.

For those who don't want to follow the links, the PDF in the second link describes an adaptive ISO system in which a minimum and maximum ISO range is set and each pixel is then allocated the most suitable ISO. The advantage seems to be that noise in shadow areas is controlled and highlight detail is preserved. I had previously thought that the various highlight priority systems appearing in later model DSLR's might eventually give advantages but this adaptive ISO thing seems to offer a better chance of achieving a good exposure.

It's all very interesting, I wonder if it will take off? What do you think? Good idea?
