I have been asked to find out whether it is possible or even advisable, to clean glass plates and film prior to their archival. I would not have thought that there would be a problem with the non-emulsion side of the glass if cleaned with care but I am not so sure if the emulsion surface should be touched even if there is evidence of mould. If members have had experience of this I would be glad to hear of techniques and materials. I would suggest that every negative should be scanned prior to any action. I presume that film, if in good condition, could be re-washed.
