Re: What 2nd lens to buy

Quote:

There are two versions of the 40-150, an older, faster version, and a newer, smaller and slower version.

I've heard differing reports regarding which is better, however if in a school hall the older one may be preferable. I have this version, and have been very pleased with it.

Having said that, I saw the new version for sale at SRS Microsystems online, at £90, which is the cheapest I've seen it anywhere

I had the old version which came with my E500 and when I upgraded to an E510 I kept it as I felt that the extra weight was more than balanced out by the extra speed. It was a very good lens but when I got the 70-300 I gave it away (to my daughter who already had the E500) as I never seemed to be using it.

One other point in favour of the newer version, which nobody has mentioned, is that it has a closer focussing distance - no use from the back of the school hall but for some applications it could be useful
