Nikon 50mm f1.8 - get it! No better lens of that type at the money.
55-200VR - get it too! There are cheaper lenses but the are inferior (read some of the magazine group tests) - the only better lens is Nikon's non-VR version, but it's only marginally better and the VR function is very useful. I have the non-VR version myself
