I was a keen photographer for many years until I had my motorbike accident in July 2006. It took me nearly 2 years to recover and I spent many many months in hospital and in a wheel chair. I have permanently lost all flex in my right elbow and some flex in my right ankle. As a result of the accident, I lost interest in photography and I (stupidly) sold all my Nikon DSLR equipment.

Now a few years later and having recovered pretty well, I realised how much I have missed photography! Last year's family trip to China was a great opportunity (and excuse) to pick up a decent camera and start shooting again. I discovered that the m4/3 systems allow near DSLR experience without the weight and size. I cannot hold heavy or bulky equipment for long. I have now invested in an Olympus OM-D system and I have learned how to get around my mobility limitations using grips and tripods.

I am predominantly self-taught. I like to read up on new techniques and seek inspiration in photography books and magazines. I did do a course on dark-room techniques and developed my own B/W films/prints for a while. But that was in the days digital cameras did not exist! I like shooting with older manual lenses since I find the optics and experience far better than shooting with modern optics.
