Guess what I've got ...
      #627171 - 14/03/2008 15:24

... couldn't resist

Sony Alpha 350. I just bought a body as I've plenty of lenses. Been having a quick play with it and so far I'm most impressed, they've certainly got the live view to be very fast and convenient. The LV was my main reason for buying as with my arthritis I have great problems kneeling down and fed up with all my shots at eye-level. Now I can use ground level, waist level and over the head without problem.

Early days but so far noise, definition, white balance and exposure all seem extremely good. Smaller, lighter, some missing features and slower frame rates etcetera and more plastic than the a700 of course - but still well done.

I think the a350 will suit many people.

Looking forward to your report after the initial shakedown Rog.....

… but there’s no doubt about it, you definitely DO need both, they compliment each other so well. The a700 has all the twiddly bits and a far better specification – but you just try lying on the wet ground to get a close-up of an ant – much easier (and more decorous) with that live-view screen. There’s also the benefit of waist level viewing (just like an old TLR) for less intrusive use - everyone thinks you’ve gotta look through the viewfinder or hold the thing at arm’s length like compact users. Sneaky shots are easy!

Of course the a700 comes into its own when you need 5fps, MLU, DOF preview, 6400 ISO or a degree of weather protection and more controls and options.

Apart from all that it’s a great new toy to play with – just watching the screen alter with WB and exposure compensation adjustment is great - I’m having lotsa fun and you could to if only you .......

... raining and dull 8.00am taken close to ground level. Sony a350 with Sigma 10-20mm at about 6inches from the centre flower. 1600 ISO 1/60th at f13 auto WB and DRO+ - jpeg straight from the camera.

No work of art, not meant to be, but maybe gives a bit of an idea what can be done.

My A350 and Sigma 10-20 are sitting staring at me. I,ve had the A350 for a couple of weeks and I think its great. Just bought Sigma 10-20 and 70-300 APO. The 70 -300 is bascially the same lens as my Olympus 70-300. Never had a lens as wide as the 10-20 before. Looking forward to the rain stopping.

Just a couple taken with the 18-70 kit lens. This is much better than I feared but it will still be replaced with a CZ 16-80
